Talen Energy Electrical Engineer - Senior/Principal level in Allentown, Pennsylvania

Talen Energy is seeking an experienced electrical engineer for their central engineering group. The role will perform engineering related functions for electric power generating stations that includes transformers, switchgears, PLCs, motors, wiring, etc., and would function as a subject matter expert for a number of those items depending upon areas of expertise. The position will support various projects, testing, and fleet-wide engineering initiatives involving multiple Northeast / Mid-Atlantic Talen power plants and Talen Fleet initiatives.

The base work location for the successful candidate will be in Allentown, PA.

Examples of general engineering responsibilities:

Provide technical support and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in areas of expertise.

Interface with management teams, project teams, and other disciplines within the engineering group to solve complex tasks.

Support the plants with planning and implementation of maintenance outages.

Focus on maintaining or improving equipment condition and performance, being cognizant of available techniques and practices. Identify and assist in resolution of emergent equipment issues.

Coordinate with vendors as applicable, for related products and services.

Prepare and maintain necessary technical documentation and operating and performance history records.

Assist plant maintenance and operations with troubleshooting activities during planned or forced outage events

Assist in the work on smaller engineering projects or well-defined areas of larger projects.

Use existing procedures to investigate, evaluate, and assist in producing technically correct and cost-effective designs or recommendations that solve ongoing problems.

Build relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross functional knowledge of related work groups, and ability to present work products effectively.

Gather and correlate basic engineering data using well defined engineering procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems, and engineering studies.

Assist in a variety of topics including developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations or new or better equipment purchase recommendations.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or engineering technology, from a college or university accredited by ABET, or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent.

Minimum 6 years’ electrical engineering experience in fossil power plant engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge with electrical design requirements for power plants.

Experience working with large electrical equipment (motors, VFDs, PLCs, generators, transformers).

Working knowledge of transformer operation, electrical testing and maintenance practice.

Professional Engineer registration in Pennsylvania (for principal engineer position).
